Ghostbusters 28/19/2023 While Ghostbusters II was unable to recapture the magic of its predecessor (and undoubtedly had been affected, in at least its tone, by the popular television series), it still reunited the New York City heroes, giving them one more big battle with the supernatural.Ģ016 saw a complete reboot of the franchise, detached from the 80's films (and I still have no desire to see it its trailers and some clips I've seen are enough to confirm my extreme lack of interest in it. Despite the 5-year gap between the original and its one-and-only sequel, young fans like me had been reintroduced to the characters in their animated form in the 1986 series, The Real Ghostbusters - which became a huge hit on the small screen. When Ghostbusters II released, I was an enthusiastic 9-year-old itching for a return of my favorite proton-gun-slinging heroes. With the long-awaited third installment into the original Ghostbusters film series, that began with the 1984 film, finally hitting theaters this year (after originally being slated for a summer 2020 debut, but getting sidelined thanks to a worldwide pandemic), I thought it would be timely to revisit part two of the story, 1989's Ghostbusters II.Īs an 80's kid, I saw the original film on the big screen at a very young age - and I was an instant fan (although the movie is totally not appropriate for a 4-year-old). Movie Reviews (Main) > Movie Reviews (Main).Indie Reviews (Main) > Indie Reviews (Main). But, I definitely think you should give it another chance if you’ve just put it off as being a bad sequel. In the end, I know a lot of people will still not like Ghostbusters 2, and that’s okay. Watch it again, as an adult, with that mindset of what the deeper meaning is, and maybe you’ll appreciate it more. The river of slime running beneath the surface was definitely emblematic of the animosity and violence and fear that was coursing through the city at the time, and I think that makes Ghostbusters 2 a lot smarter than people give it credit for. The film does a great job of exploring the topic of New York, in the ‘80s, being kind of a terrible place to live, but in a humorous way. The year 1981 is often cited as the most violent year in New York City history. Lastly, I find the concept of a river of slime that is manifested from the negative feelings people have toward each other in major cities to be super creative and clever. The Concept Of Negative Feelings Manifesting Itself Into Slime Under The City Is Actually Pretty Clever Ghostbusters 2 is pretty funny, but Janosz definitely steals the movie. His willingness to take Dana’s baby to Vigo so she will be his wife is just played so well, and he’s never intimidating, which is a nice counterbalance to Vigo, who is very intimidating. One thing that the original Ghostbusters has going for it in spades is its zany characters, but Janosz may just be the zaniest that this series has to offer. I also just think he adds such a great layer of lunacy to this already crazy movie. If you imitate his voice, any Ghostbuster 2 fan will immediately go, “Oh, hey, that’s Janosz!” In fact, with his silly accent, he was kind of like the Borat of the ‘80s. Every line of dialogue that comes out of his mouth (“Soon, the city will be mine and Vigo’s … mainly Vigo’s.”) is outright comic gold. Head of the Restoration department at the Manhattan Museum of Art, and Dana’s boss, Janosz Poha ( Ally McBeal’s Peter MacNicol), is by far my favorite character in the entire movie. The ghosts manifest themselves from the slime and the judge’s negative vibes, and what follows is the crew getting back together and a cool montage where the boys are back in business, which always leaves a warm feeling in my heart after them being separated earlier in the film. Then, we get one of my favorite moments in the entire series with the courtroom scene with the Scoleri Brothers, which I think might even rival the library scene from the first movie. Dana’s baby, Oscar, is in a stroller that finds its way to an abandoned train station, and Ray breaks a pipe when he’s trying to investigate, so he gets the team arrested. I think the second movie does a great job of finding a way to get the team to rekindle their passion for ghostbusting, and it all goes back to that river. I mentioned where each hero went, but let’s talk about that river of slime again, and how the crew gets back together. Okay, so since the team is out of business after the first movie, they’ve all disbanded and gone their separate ways. The Team Coming Back Together Again Creates A Nice, Warm Feeling In The Heart

This includes innovative concepts in the industry including having a therapist on staff and providing mentorship opportunities to help employees move up the ladder in the world of food and beverage.Īnother reason for the wonderful experience is of course the wonderful food and drink options that the creative brunch company brings to the table. We thoroughly enjoyed sightseeing and enjoying the unique places Nashville has to offer.Karl and Sarah Worley are bringing Biscuit Love to Birmingham!Ī big part of what makes Biscuit Love a bright place to visit is the focus the restaurant’s owners put into ensuring that their employees are taken care of on a professional and personal level. We literally ordered four plates of chilaquiles because what else do you do with the power of ordering unlimited food? We also ordered their signature fruity pebble french toast - and it was the best way to wrap up our meal.Īs our trip was coming to a close, we wanted to make sure we visited all of Nashville’s popular sites so we walked the Pedestrian Bridge and toured Country Music Hall of Fame. It was one of the most incredible dining experiences - because it was unlimited food and drink! Talk about the best of both worlds. We had brunch reservations at Sinema, which is the iconic repurposed Melrose theater. We also visited Draper James, which is Reese Witherspoon’s boutique. Honestly, I was left speechless by how amazing their donuts were! The flavors were super unique! 10/10 recommend.Īfter eating the world’s best donuts, we decided to put our sugar rush to good use by shopping! We took some photos around the 12 South Nashville murals because we live for a good photo op! The “I Believe in Nashville” mural paired with my white fringe jacket might just be my new 2021 aesthetic. We tried to eat the maple glaze with our hands, but it was filled with creme, so that was a no-go. The famous ‘100-layer donut’ just means there are so many layers of depth in the dough - it’s amazing! My favorite was the blueberry lemon, while Riddhi’s fave was the triple raspberry glaze! We also got mini donuts in these mouth-watering flavors: mini blueberry lemon, cinnamon, vanilla glaze, and triple raspberry. We ordered one of every flavor and made ourselves a donut tasting, because why not? We ordered the two most popular flavors: vanilla cream and maple glaze. It’s so fun to see this part of town and wander down Broadway! Day 4īefore I left Nashville, I had to visit Five Daughters Bakery to try their 100-layer donuts, which are basically cronuts. We visited a bunch of fun bars like Honky Tonk Central, Tootsies Orchid Lounge, and Luke’s 32 Bridge. Can you believe they have falafel tacos?! With several veggie options and a lively vibe, It’s the perfect place to have a quick bite!Įveryone knows that you have to visit Nashville’s Honky Tonk Highway on Lower Broadway when you come to this electric city! We had the best time bar-hopping and dancing the night away. While you might not plan on eating excellent Mexican food while in Nashville, you’d be surprised by this laid-back restaurant because it serves amazing (and cheap) tacos.

Stacks offers an extensive menu - including grilled specialties, fresh pasta, soups, sandwiches, hearty entrees and daily specials - and features a brick oven, where fresh pizza and other menu items are prepared daily. For the owner of the actual establishment to walk away without talking to me as the customer is disgusting and speaking for this establishment. This is no way to run a restaurant let alone treat people. All he said was okay and I understand once again not trying to make anything better. The manager came out and was just as bad. Even after repeating myself and how rude he was there was no apology, he did not try and make the situation better and walked away into the kitchen. Stating that he didn’t realized what he said and he’s just trying to accommodate everyone. When confronting the owner he was extremely rude and unprofessional. Not only was it extremely unprofessional it forced us to feel rushed. next to us that “we’ll have two chairs ready in 30 secs” which was my table. Kerry packer book8/18/2023 ‘Despite my deep feeling for the traditional game, and my conviction that a vast majority of players and public still regard Test cricket as the supreme contest, we must accept that we live in a new era,’ he continued. Sir Donald wrote of the ‘great stadiums of Sydney and Melbourne now display huge electronic scoreboards costing millions of dollars and giving a wealth of information to the spectators, the enormous electric light towers turn night into day at the flick of a switch’. In fact, The Don was being overly pessimistic, as he would concede himself in Wisden in 1986, when he contributed a story under the heading ‘Whither Cricket Now?‘. ‘Only time can answer these questions, but I feel that the Packer interlude has damaged the whole structure of cricket more than anyone yet realises.‘ ‘As for the lights, I remain somewhat sceptical about the agreement with Packer, one-day games, lights and so on,’ he wrote. If These Walls Could Talk: A Celebration of the Sydney Cricket Ground by Andrew Webster, published by Stoke Hill Press. Nine held the rights for the next 40 years. On May 30, it was announced that the exclusive broadcast rights had been handed to Packer’s Channel Nine, just as he had wanted all along. It was clear to those with access to the Board’s finances that it might not survive if the war continued. ‘I don’t care what we have to give away to get this deal done,’ Bradman told them. Instead of finding a combative Bradman, Packer and his people were greeted by a pragmatic one, looking for compromise. On February 13, 1979, Packer flew to Adelaide in his private jet to finally end the war between World Series Cricket and the Australian Cricket Board. The first meeting between Bradman and Packer isn’t well known and wasn’t revealed until 2016 in a long-form piece in The Cricket Monthly from Daniel Brettig. And then there was Sir Donald himself, so cranky that he was now asking for top dollar for his weathered bats and sweat-stained old gloves. Big unsightly light towers glowing like the moon were getting up the nose and in the eyes of residents. In other words, if Packer was profiting from the SCG, why shouldn’t Bradman? Was all this going to be worth it? For Packer’s bottom line? For the credibility of the SCG? For anyone? SCG members were angry. They are making plenty of money from a business venture not associated with traditional cricket.’ If I do, it would need to be on a business basis, because I am certainly no longer interested in making a donation of anything to the SCG. ‘Some preliminary inquiries were made and then, when the big turnaround in the use of the SCG was made known, I engaged in some delaying correspondence with John Wood … However, on reflection, perhaps I should pursue the matter with an open mind and not be dissuaded by my prejudices. ‘Before the Packer episode, approaches were made to me by the Trustees of the SCG concerning the possible acquisition by them of my cricketana,’ he wrote in a letter to Morris on June 5, 1978. He’d been talking to the Trust about donating a large portion of his memorabilia - ‘cricketana’ as he curiously called it - but after hearing a deal had been struck with Packer, he changed his mind. Sir Donald Bradman had been watching all of this from afar, in Adelaide, with revulsion. Hills was a senior minister in Wran’s cabinet. When it came to appointing 12 new Trustees, only three of the old incumbents remained: chairman Pat Hills, NSW Country Rugby League secretary John O’Toole and Morris. Within 24 hours of the SCG Trust rejecting the bid to use the ground, the government of Labor Premier Neville Wran performed a stunning about-face, dissolving the Trust. What Bradman and the rest of the cricket establishment perhaps underestimated was just how far Packer’s power extended. It is unbelievable that one man because of a lust for power can throw into the melting pot the growth of over 100 years.’ ‘I see the ICC Test countries had the guts to confront Packer but what will happen next?’ he continued in his letter. In the end, principle will win, albeit through a long and costly process.’īradman knew that Packer and his deep pockets weren’t going away. For mine, I place principle before money, but not everyone does. ‘I presume and hope they saw the issue as the survival of Test cricket as we know it, or capitulation to a Packer monopoly. ‘First, my congratulations to the SCG Trustees for having the courage to resist the tempting Packer offer,’ he wrote. Upon hearing the news, Bradman sent Morris a letter of approval. |
